Contrary to what you might see on ebay, quality carbon frames are not cheap. DENIGRIS Bikes acquires their frames through a tried and true manufacturer in China which uses the "open mold" system. Because we are a small retailer, this allows us to defray the costs of manufacturing and pass the savings on to you. The "open mold" system means that the frame design is available through the manufacturer to other bike builders. This does not mean that the frame is substandard or counterfeit. We do have input on the design of the mold, but the manufacturer owns the mold and can sell it to other shops. Owning a mold runs from $60,000 per mold. Until we have the resources of the name brands, using an open mold makes sense. (Another company, nud bikes out of Vancouver B.C. shares this common practice and has an excellent article on the process.)
For example, the 2012 time trial frame below
may look familiar as the Stradalli Phantom II
or as the Stevens Super Trofeo .
